What are stem cells?

Stem cells are cells with self-renewal ability and multipotent differentiation capacity. Under certain circumstances, stem cells can be induced to differentiate into more than 220 functional cells in the human body. Thanks to their homing effect, stem cells can repair and replace damaged cells to induce tissue/organ regeneration. Stem cells are the source of all the tissue and organs, it is called the “all-purpose cells” in medical fields.

+ -
What are embryonic stem cells?

According to a different stage of the human body development, stem cells can be divided into embryonic stem cells, adult stem cells, and induced pluripotent stem cells. Embryonic stem cells are cells with (life-long) sustainable self-renewal capacity and they have the potential to differentiate into multiple cells and hold developmental totipotency. They can develop into almost all kinds of human tissues and organs, and thus possess great value in both medical research and clinical applications.

+ -
What are adult stem cells?

Adult stem cells refer to undifferentiated cells existing in differentiated human tissues. Their differentiation potential is weaker than embryonic stem cells. Those cells can self-renewal and differentiate into cells in their corresponding tissue. Its physiological significance is for renewing aging/dead cells during normal aging processes and maintaining the normal function and structure of human tissue. Adult stem cells are regarded as the “reserved force” of the body. Adult stem cells reside in all types of tissues and organs in the human body, current discovered adult stem cells include hematopoietic stem cells, bone marrow stromal cells, neural stem cells, liver stem cells, skin stem cells, intestinal stem cells, retinal stem cells, pancreatic stem cells, etc.

+ -
Where do stem cells come from?

Different types of stem cells come from different sources. Embryonic stem cells only exist in embryos about 5-7 days after fertilization. The embryonic stem cells currently being utilized in our medical center are donated by volunteers. Here in Ukraine, being a donor is a very respectful thing from the standpoint of Orthodox Christians. Adult stem cells exist in all major organs in the human body. There are adult stem cells that reside in the blood, bone marrow, peripheral blood vessels, umbilical cord, etc. The induced pluripotent stem cells are made from differentiated somatic cells (such as skin cells or liver cells) by transfecting a few special transcription factors into them, thus the somatic cells will dedifferentiate and become stem cells that obtain pluripotent differentiation potential like embryonic stem cells, with multipotent differentiation properties and developmental totipotency.

+ -
What are the different types of stem cells?

Scientific studies have indicated stem cells exist not only in embryos but also in an adult body. It is possible to isolate corresponding stem cells from the umbilical cord and umbilical blood, placenta, bone marrow, adipose, and other tissues.

Stem cells can be categorized into totipotent stem cells, multipotent stem cells, and unipotent stem cells according to their differentiation potential.

According to the different stages of embryonic development, stem cells can be divided into embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells.

Stem cells can also be classified according to the tissue types stem cells can differentiate into, for example, hematopoietic stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells, etc.

What is the difference between autologous stem cells and allogeneic stem cells?

Autologous stem cells are derived from the patient's own body, the cells have perfect histocompatibility and the patient doesn’t need to do any matching. There is a high cell utilization rate and no immune rejection after implantation.

Allogeneic stem cells are stem cells derived from donors other than the patient him/herself, Allogeneic stem cells are often with low-level immunogenicity.

Autologous stem cell transplantation is not recommended for patients with infectious diseases, major genetic diseases, or other major diseases.

+ -
What can stem cells be used for?

Since stem cells have self-renewal and multipotent differentiation capacity, they have been used in all major medical fields, including cosmetic and anti-aging, disease treatment, tissue regeneration, gene therapy, system reconstruction, and other important medical fields. There have been numerous research outcomes and successful application cases worldwide.

+ -
Why are stem cells important?

Stem cells are regarded as “all-purpose cells” in the medical community, it is a ground-breaking discovery of regeneration medicine. The application scope of stem cells will be largely expanded in the future, and more and more diseases that used to be considered “incurable” are likely to be solved with stem cell therapy, thus adding another layer of protection to the health of all human beings.

+ -
Are stem cells safe?

Stem cells are safe, none of the patients who received our treatment in the past were harmed by the stem cells or had their condition worsen after treatment. They all reported that stem cell therapy has made them healthier. Shortly after stem cell reinfusion, body temperature increases or fatigue/sleepy may occur, this is because stem cells are beginning to take action, and the symptoms will relieve in 1-2 hours.

+ -
How do stem cells work?

Stem cells can differentiate into various tissue cells in the human body, and replace and repair dead or damaged cells. Stem cells also help to maintain normal body function, at the same time, activate quiescence cells or inhibited cells. Stem cells can also secret cytokines to reduce tissue inflammation and inhibit the immune response from the damaged tissue, thus repairing injured tissue. In addition, stem cells can also promote the restoration of intercellular electrical capacity and electrical conduction, thereby restoring cell function.

+ -
What is stem cell therapy?

Stem cell therapy is a medical intervention that first, culture stem cells in vitro, then transplant stem cells into a patient’s body to restore normal body function, usually by regeneration damaged cells and tissue, to cure disease or repair malfunctioning body tissue and organs. The transplanted stem cells could come from the patient him/herself or other donors as allogeneic stem cells.

Currently, hematopoietic stem cells and mesenchymal stem cells are the major two types of stem cells used in mainstream clinical stem cell therapy practice.

Different diseases, disease status, and severity of diseases will all affect the length of the treatment process. Patients might need 3, 5, 7, or 10 days to finish the treatment. We formulate a treatment plan based on the specific condition of each patient to gain the best treatment results.

+ -
How long does it take to see the effects after treatment?

The time to see the effect after treatment varies among patients with different diseases since the etiology and the severity of diseases are different in each patient. For most patients, significant improvement can be seen in 3 months after treatment. For example, our patient who received anti-aging treatment reported increased energy level, improved skin condition, and younger body status. Diabetes patients who received treatment reported significantly reducing or eliminating their dependence on drugs or insulin. And major body condition indicators have gradually returned to normal status.

So far, none of the patients treated at the SQ1 center have been dissatisfied. As long as you cooperate with the doctors to receive stem cell therapy and follow the doctor’s advice on a healthy lifestyle and follow up regularly after departure. We’ll make sure you are satisfied with the treatment effect.

+ -
Is there an age limit for stem cell infusion?

Generally, starting from age 25 (individual differences may apply), the cell renewal rate will slow down, and major organs’ function started to decline, the whole body will age gradually, so it is recommended to start stem cell infusion at age 25.

+ -
Who should not receive stem cell transplantation?

Patients with late-stage malignant tumors, especially brain tumors.

  • Shocked or unconscious patients

Are there any side effects of stem cell transplantation/infusion?

Compared to conventional medication therapy, stem cell therapy is much safer and without side effects. Stem cells have none or low-level immunogenicity, thus no rejection reactions will be triggered during and after the treatment. At the same time, since the supply of stem cells is abundant and sufficient, it can treat more diseases compared to conventional therapies.

+ -
How significant is the stem cell treatment effect?

Stem cell reinfusion is mainly based on intravenous infusion, local injection and targeted injection. The clinicians will prescribe different stem cell types, delivery methods, and treatment regimens to each patient according to the individual’s health/disease conditions.

Since stem cell therapy is directly targeting the source of the diseases, it could avoid the side-effect to normal body function from drug or surgery treatments. At the same time, stem cell therapy can optimize sub-health conditions and improve overall body health status.

+ -
Will rejection reaction occurs once the stem cells are reinfused?

The stem cells used in the treatment process are all cultured and differentiated in vitro in a strictly regulated laboratory, the cells are with extremely low immunogenicity, and the cultured stem cells will undergo a series of quality control steps, to ensure that the stem cells don’t contain any toxic substances or tumor markers. The stem cells will not invoke any rejection reaction in the human body.

Different treatment directions require different regimens. Once your doctor finalizes your personalized treatment plan, you will be told in detail about how many treatment regimens you will receive from your doctor.

+ -
Do I need to come back for a second treatment after the initial one?

This depends on the type and severity of the disease. If you are doing anti-aging treatment, you only need to receive one treatment regimen at a time, to maintain a young status, you may need once or twice treatment per year after the initial one. If you are treating a certain type of disease, it will depend on the severity of the disease, if you have had the disease for 5/10/20 years, one treatment regimen might not be enough since the treatment of those chronic diseases is a gradual process, you need enough stem cells to completely cure your disease, please give the stem cells some time, and you will be satisfied with the outcomes!
